Ingredients:
2/3 cup Shortening or butter, softened to room temperature
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour, increase 1/4 for a softer cookie
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sale
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Special tools/utensils needed:
Hand mixer or stand mixer (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375* F.
Mix shortening or butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl, creaming until golden and smooth.
In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking soda, and salt until fine.
Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until homogenous. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if adding.
Scoop tablespoon size balls 2” apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
